Darren Vollmer and his dad Joe have operated Ledgeview Garden in DePere since 2001. Their vegetable operation includes hydroponic tomatoes, greens, and cucumbers, as well as the seasonal assortment of vegetables on the field. Ledgeview has added chickens and turkeys, which make good use of vegetable waste.
Ledgeview’s poultry is fed organic grain and allowed to forage on a large grassy area. They have shelter at night and during bad weather. After the hoop houses are done for the winter, Darren runs the chickens inside to forage and clean up any slugs and bugs.
Darren is the president of SLO Farmers Co-op. He and his wife, Amanda, have two children under five. You can meet Darren and Joe at the Green Bay Farmers Market.
